Harem Pilots are on a mission to sail the good ship indie grunge through the murky waters of the current art-pop tsunami. A mysterious juxtaposition between duel frontmen Leigh Hayes and Phil M Poole combined with unique relationship between the music's addictive alt-rock licks, hook laden melodies and anglicised wit assures a rare aural treat.
Having developed their sound for over two years, the past few months have seen a flurry of activity from the Pilots. They have just added a new rhythm section and recently finished work on their third EP Bang, which encapsulates their essence perfectly with infectious thunderous riffs and debauched lyrics about life, death, drugs, and cups of tea.
Contrary to his nice guy exterior Leigh rants passionately about current trends in the music scene, "I'm sick of going to gigs and having to call the riff police every time a band cranks up. Why don't they just go out and form a tribute band? Passion is not enough. We want originality, and we want new ideas, not impersonations that would embarrass Rory Bremner."
And with recent gigs including headlining Manchester Academy 3 and supporting Jonny Panic on the Liverpool leg of their UK tour, it would seem the time has come for the Harem Pilots to dock and unleash their dirge rock revolution on the world!
